Pep Guardiola Reaction | Full Press Conference | Man City 1-0 Inter | Champions League

Pep Guardiola has carved his name into history once more by becoming the first manager to win two European Trebles in the men’s game. 
City’s inspired Catalan manager achieved the astounding feat following our 1-0 win over Inter in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul. 

Rodrigo's piledriver at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Turkey, confirmed our status as champions of Europe for the first time in the Club’s 129-year history – and also meant City secured the coveted Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. 

As well as cementing City’s place in the history books, the feat means Guardiola now stands alone in the game’s all-time managerial ranks, having has surpassed the eight other bosses who have won one European men’s Treble.

That notable list includes fabled figures such as Jock Stein, who achieved the feat with Celtic in the 1966/67 season, Stefan Kovacs of Ajax (1971/72), Guus Hiddink with PSV (1987/88), Sir Alex Ferguson with Manchester United (1998/99), Jose Mourinho with Inter (2009/10), Jupp Heynckes of Bayern Munich (2012/13), Luis Enrique of Barcelona (2014/15) and Hansi Flick of Bayern Munich (2019/20).

City’s historic Treble achievement saw Guardiola repeat the iconic feat he first achieved as Barcelona manager during the 2008/09 season. 

Across the 2022/23 domestic season, Pep guided City to a third successive Premier League crown – and fifth title in six years - after we fought back from eight-point deficit on Arsenal at the beginning of April to win the title with three matches to spare. 

We then secured our seventh FA Cup crown with an enthralling 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Wembley in the first-ever all-Manchester cup final. 

Saturday night’s triumph over Inter saw City complete the Treble and so set the seal on the most extraordinary season in our history.

In total, we scored 145 goals in all competitions across the term with 94 coming in the league, 19 in the FA Cup and 32 in the Champions League, meaning we’ve averaged 2.52 goals per game.

Erling Haaland’s outstanding season saw him finish as top goal scorer across the Premier League (36) and the Champions League (12), while Riyad Mahrez’s tally of six in the FA Cup saw him top our scoring charts in that competition. 

All told, City played 57 games in 2022/23 across the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup – winning 43 times, meaning we recorded a staggering win percentage of just shy of 75%.

By winning the Champions League – Guardiola’s tally of major honours secured during his seven-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium now stands at 14. 

Pep’s inaugural managerial Treble whilst at Barcelona was sealed thanks to a 2-0 win over Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League final. 

Similar to City’s 2022/23 campaign, Barca’s success in the Rome showpiece followed a remarkable domestic campaign where the Catalan club finished nine points clear of second-placed Real Madrid, before then beating Athletic Club 4-1 in the Copa del Rey final. 

Across a total 60 games across the three competitions, Guardiola’s Barca won 41 game – representing a remarkable win percentage of 68%.
