Alex Boyé performs the world debut of an excerpt from his musical "American Prophet" at the historic Tabernacle on Temple square on to an arousing and emotional standing ovation, at the Genesis 50th anniversary Celebration on October 23rd 2021

American Prophet - The Urban Musical, tells the story 5 Black men -- a fiery preacher a barber, and 3 former slaves -- who all convert because of Joseph Smiths powerful witness of the restoration and first vision. Despite their many trials and tribulations, their testimonies never wavered; they died in Utah, with their testimonies still intact.

Utilizing modern hip-hop, rap and classical contemporary music, the film takes a fresh, exciting look at Joseph Smith’s dynamic message from a different perspective and the movement he started that has grown to a church of seventeen million followers worldwide.

The church is more racially and ethnically diverse than ever before and I want to create a body of work that will represent that. American Prophet contains universal themes that anybody can relate to, from love, hate, redemption, and searching for your own place in an often unforgiving world.
