Former City striker Carlos Tevez believes Pep Guardiola’s side go into Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg tie against Real Madrid armed with a deserved reputation for being one of Europe’s most respected and feared sides.
The Premier League leaders and reigning champions will lock horns with the Spanish giants at the Etihad in a tie that has captured everyone’s imagination.
Real, of course, will step out at the Etihad armed with a formidable reputation, having won the Champions League a record 13 times i their illustrious history.
But, looking ahead to the game, Tevez, who spent four memorable years at City between 2009 and 2013 winning three major trophies, believes such is our standing in Europe now that we will also give Carlos Ancelotti’s star-studded side cause for concern.
“I can see an open game, a good game but I feel happy that City are in this position, fighting with the top teams in Europe,” said the former Argentine marksman.
“We haven’t won it yet, but I feel it’s important that after 10 years City start as equals in Europe against a top side like Real Madrid.
“I think Real Madrid has to be careful. Everyone has to be worried about City now – before we were worried about everyone else but not nowadays.
“It is something that for someone like me, who lived the City dressing room 10 years ago, today is unthinkable but that is the reality.
“With the players, with the mentality that City have, they can play as equals against everybody.”
