Ⓔ Piqué gets 4-match ban
Judge Único of the Competition Committee has sanctioned Gerard Piqué for four matches. The case presented by his club could not save the Catalan central defender who will not be able to play the opening four la Liga fixtures against Athletic Club, Malaga, Atlético de Madrid and Levante. The charge against Piqué was based on article 94 of the Disciplinary Code, Piqué used insulting language against the linesman and was given a straight-red, as stated in referee Velasco Carballo’s report. The central defender stated on Twitter that he never insulted the referee’s assistant but to no avail. The player was also fined 3,005 euro, while the club receives a 1,400 euro fine for the offence.
