261HP Hyundai Veloster Raptor is the One We Need!
Hyundai has the secret to making a kick-ass Hyundai Veloster for $35,000. Unfortunately it apparently will never grace our shores or those of any other countries for that matter. As reported by the Australian car website CarAdvice, engineers for Hyundai Australia built this Hyundai Veloster Raptor just to see how far its platform could be stretched. Apparently a lot.
The Veloster Raptor produces 261 horsepower and 234 lb. ft. of torque. The turbo-equipped Veloster in the US spins out a mere 201 horsepower and 195 lb. ft. of torque from its 1.6-liter, four-cylinder turbo.
Apart from a retuned ECU, the six-speed manual-equipped Veloster-Raptor features a cat-back exhaust, Quaife limited-slip front differential, high-performance dampers, progressive rate King Springs, performance brake pads and 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
Among other modifications listed by CarAdvice, “is a host of exterior modifications highlighted by an oversized black hexagonal grille. Other changes include more aggressive side sills, round fog lamps and an imitation rear diffuser. In place of the normal Veloster’s central hexagonal exhaust pipe are two larger free flowing circular pipes that team up with new intake manifold to create more robust-sounding engine music.”
Hyundai Australia PR manager Bill Thomas comes right and extinguishes our hopes this car would be built. “We saw that there was potential there. The car is very much an expression of what’s possible rather than saying, ‘right, we’re going to build this, we’re going to do it,’” he said.
Damn you, Hyundai Australia for even getting our hopes up.
