Peterborough United and Manchester City have met just once before in all competitions, a clash which also came in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February 1981, and ended in a 1-0 victory for the Citizens away from home.
Manchester City have won each of their last 11 FA Cup matches against sides from a lower division, netting 40 goals (and at least three times in 10 of those) and conceding just eight goals themselves.
Three of Peterborough’s previous four FA Cup ties at the fifth round stage have gone to a replay – in 1964-65, 1974-75 and 1985-86 – with the only one not going to a replay a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in 1981. The Posh’s only appearance at the quarter-final stage was back in 1965.
Only Manchester United (5) have reached the FA Cup quarter-finals more often than Manchester City (4) since Pep Guardiola came to the club in 2016-17, with round five the earliest exit they have suffered under the Spaniard – losing at Wigan in 2017-18.
