The 17th World Gymnaestrada got under way with an Opening Ceremony featuring flags, music and some eye-catching Gymnastics at Amsterdam’s Olympic Stadium. The World Gymnaestrada is the FIG’s largest event and the starting point of this 17th edition was a stadium built to host the 1928 Olympic Games, which now welcomed almost 19,000 Gymnastics enthusiasts, drawn together from five continents for this non-competitive celebration of their sport. In front of an animated audience, it was an Opening Ceremony that mixed Gymnastics with music, colour and dance – not to mention a big slice of pageantry.
